Stomatalites growing at Hamelin Pool(Shark Bay) these look for all the world like stones but they are living organisms that have been around since before us and this is only one of four places in the world that they still grow and survive, scientist think because of the hypersalinity of the water and the protected area that they grow in all very interesting.
The red color makes them a bit more interesting to look at but unfortunately they are the dead ones they only change color after they die.

Walk-way at Hamelin Pool they have built so people can see the Stomatalites without walking on them.

Cockle shells at Hamelin Pool that have been collecting here for thousands of years and then they pack down and become solid. Years ago they use to cut it into blocks and use it for building etc these days it is protected apart from the occasional block to repair a heritage building like the Old Pearler Restuarant in Denham.
